Chapter 33 MySQL Workbench MySQL Workbench provides a graphical tool for working with MySQL servers and databases. MySQL Workbench is developed and tested with MySQL Server 8.0. MySQL Workbench may connect to MySQL Server 8.4 and higher but some MySQL Workbench features may not function with those newer server versions. The following discussion briefly describes MySQL Workbench capabilities. For more information, see the MySQL Workbench manual, available at MySQL Workbench provides five main areas of functionality: SQL Development: Enables you to create and manage connections to database servers. As well as enabling you to configure connection parameters, MySQL Workbench provides the capability to execute SQL queries on the database connections using the built-in SQL Editor. This functionality replaces that previously provided by the Query Browser standalone application. Data Modeling: Enables you to create models of your database schema graphically, reverse and forward engineer between a schema and a live database, and edit all aspects of your database using the comprehensive Table Editor. The Table Editor provides easy-to-use facilities for editing Tables, Columns, Indexes, Triggers, Partitioning, Options, Inserts and Privileges, Routines and Views. Server Administration: Enables you to create and administer server instances. Data Migration: Allows you to migrate from Microsoft SQL Server, Sybase ASE, SQLite, SQL Anywhere, PostreSQL, and other RDBMS tables, objects and data to MySQL. Migration also supports migrating from earlier versions of MySQL to the latest releases. MySQL Enterprise Support: Support for Enterprise products such as MySQL Enterprise Backup and MySQL Audit. MySQL Workbench is available in two editions, the Community Edition and the Commercial Edition. The Community Edition is available free of charge. The Commercial Edition provides additional Enterprise features, such as database documentation generation, at low cost.. 2025-04-02I have installed Ubuntu 13.04 and now fully dependent on it. I have worked on mysql query browser in windows to run queries and procedures and programmers ,i could not find any other alternatives in Ubuntu 13.04 which is fast, lightweight, and simple.I had a look on mysql workbench but forums didn't gave any positive feedbacks regarding workbench as it freezes and complicated to use and run simple procedures. what to use that is similar to query browser in Ubuntu. asked Jan 28, 2014 at 13:32 1 emma is an lighter alternative to MySQL Workbench. Reasonably capable with the ability to add databases, tables, execute queries, save query results. You can find in the Ubuntu Software Center, or install it through Terminal with sudo apt-get install emma answered Jan 28, 2014 at 15:52 douggrodouggro2,5773 gold badges19 silver badges22 bronze badges 0 I have been using MySQL in combination with MySQL Workbench since like MySQL Workbench exists. For me it has been THE tool to use. When Workbench is giving me trouble it is ME that started it (by making an SQL statement that hogs MySQL).MySQL Workbench is fast, but not lightweight. It is simple in lay-out but the SQL created with it can be most difficult (but that is not Workbench to blame). I can crash my server with 1 badly created table where SQL needs to match millions and millions of records. But no tool is going to prevent that and again, it is hardly Workbench I can blame. I would
